DIY Call Blocker on Nokia N900

There is no call blocker application available yet for the Nokia N900, but that is not a reason why you should not have the call blocking functionality on your tablet. This is why I love Maemo, if something is not there or even if it is available commercially, someone will make an free alternative, the community makes wonders.

Add extra levels for the Angry Birds game

We posted some info about the Angry Birds game some time ago and we liked the game quite a lot. Unfortunately there were no levels left after we completed the 21st. Now there is a solution to this, custom levels for the Angry Birds game that will keep you busy for a while. Since the installing of the extra level pack is not automated, here is a small tutorial on how to get this level pack running on your N900.

Using Twitter on Nokia N900 with Mauku

Mauku is a free micro bloggin client for the Maemo 5 powered Nokia N900. It is a light and easy to use app that allows you to do some basic Twitter business and not only that. Mauku has support for other micro bloging services besides Twitter, like Laconica and Qaiku. As we learned from the Mauku website, support for Facebook and Jaiku will be added soon.

Qt SDK 2010.02 reloaded

Unfortunately a “patch” sneaked into the Qt Creator 1.3.1 build that was delivered with the Qt SDK 2010.02, that makes Qt Creator crash for all Windows users using TortoiseSVN. QTCREATORBUG-710 This affects only the Qt Creator build inside the SDK and only for the Windows platform, not the Qt delivered with it for development.

Also, the Qt Creator 1.3.1-only packages are unaffected. Today we updated the Windows SDK downloads on the Qt download pages and the customer areas with fixed builds. If you suffer from the problem above, please download and install either the updated SDK packages, or the Qt Creator only packages (make sure that you get SDK packages names 2010.02.1). We apologize most sincerely for any inconvenience this has caused. [via]

Fring for Maemo 5 and Nokia N900

As soon as I saw Fring in my App Manager on my Nokia N900 I got excited, not that I have anything against using GTalk and Skype via integrated phone book. I downloaded it right away and I had no idea that I was headed for a big surprise.

I have used Fring on my Nokia N96 / N97 before and I liked it, not as much as Nimbuzz but it had its highlights. What I honestly expected was to see a well integrated IM client with the Maemo 5 UI that I got so used to. But what happened instead, did I say surprise, well it was not a pleasant one.

No more Red Pill mode on Nokia N900

For those of you who are familiar with the "Red Pill / Blue Pill" mode on Nokia N900 there is no explaining to do. For the rest of you who have no idea what I am talking about, this was a hack that allowed you to activate the Red Pill Mode of your Application Manager so that you can download and install DEB packages on your Nokia N900 right from the App Manager and also unlocked some repositories. Also it added two new buttons "Settings" and "Install from file". Well, I never though that the whole Red / Blue Pill drama was needed cos if you are skilled enough to safely use it, you will not need it in the first place, but hey maybe it is something that got many users excited and many devices being reflashed.

Maemo 6 / MeeGo on Nokia N900

Since the announcement that Nokia is merging Maemo with Moblin into MeeGo, many of the Nokia N900 owners asked if it will be possible to run MeeGo on their Nokia N900 devices. Also with the Maemo 6 release scheduled for sometime this year, the same question is raised here but this time will Nokia provide an upgrade from Maemo 5 to Maemo 6 for the N900. Also the question about the reverse and cross platform compatibility of the applications is a interesting one, but I will not discuss it here in details.

There are two possible outcomes for this, the first and I must say the best for many, if not all of the users is that Nokia will be bringing the Maemo 6 or MeeGo to the Nokia N900 via official firmware updates. The second one it that MeeGo and Maemo 6 will not be released for the N900, but don't  get disappointed just yet.

Angry Birds game for Nokia N900

Angry Birds is a nice and fun to play touch enabled game for Nokia N900. When I opened the game at first I was not so sure what I had to do and it seemed a bit boring. I don't know if it was due to the fact that it was late or maybe I just did not got how this game is played but in some 30 seconds I closed the game. The other day I was a bit bored and decided to find out how this game is played and ended up knocking out like 20 levels in a row. Well it was fun and it still is. The thing that makes this game a nice time killer is the fact that it is easy to play and the Angry Birds make a hell of a noise, screaming and laughing.
