Create an Invisible status for Skype on Nokia N900

It might not be that obvious how to make your self invisible in Skype or other built in IM client on the Nokia N900 at first, but there is an easy way to create the invisible status for Skype using the GUI on your Maemo powered Nokia N900. Here is a simple tutorial on how to make yourself invisible in Skype.

Remote desktop and Nokia N900

One of the few things I like about my Nokia N900 is the thing that it integrates extremly well with my everyday needs and my current setup of devices. Another great feature or to be more corect an app allowing this feature is "rdesktop" a small app for your Nokia N900 that allows you to create a remote desktop connection to your Windows PC. Why would you need a remote desktop feature on your device I can not tell cos it is different for everyone but, I personally found it very usefull for the simple reason that it allows me to access my PC from anywhere, and do whatever I want to do, like email a few pictures that I forgot to send to a friend and I remembered when I was already out.

MeeGo for Nokia N900 confirmed

It has been confirmed, MeeGo will be available for Nokia N900 and maybe soonder then we have expected. On a recent post on MeeGo.com named "Towards Day One", Valtteri Halla, a member of the currently two-person Technical Steering Group (TSG) of MeeGo confirmed that by the end of March, Nokia and Intel will open the MeeGo repository. Doing so, the process of merging Maemo and Mobilin will be official. As it seems Maemo 6 will not be coming to the N900, at least not from Nokia.

SuperTux - Super Mario game clone for Nokia N900

SuperTux is a free Super Mario game clone for Nokia N900, where instead of Super Mario and Luigi, you have a Tux Penguin that pretty much does everything what Mario and Luigi did in the original game. Although this is a game clone and not the original game, I must say I am surprised by the good gameplay that the SuperTux game offers on Nokia N900.

Downloading torrents with Nokia N900

Transmission is a torrent client for Nokia N900 that enables you to download torrents just like on your PC. The application is available in the Extras Devel repository which means that the Transmission torrent app is not released for general public yet, due to few bugs (the bittorrent app is still in beta development stage). But apart from that we found that Transmission worked well on our Nokia N900 and we were able to download with ease..

Map Loader for Nokia N900 (Windows 7 and Vista fix included)

If you have previously used a Nokia NSeries device or some other smartphone that had support for Ovi or Nokia Maps you know that you can preload maps for the countries you want on your device. Now this feature is available for Nokia N900 too. Why it is useful, well it not only speeds up the process of using maps on your device, but also cuts costs on your data plan for loading the maps as you go. So it is quite useful to have the maps for the countries you use the most preloaded on your Nokia N900.

Get the ~|> and more symbols in X Terminal on Nokia N900

When using X Terminal on Nokia N900 there are some annoying things that bothered me a lot like the fact that I was unable to find the pipe "|" symbol nor the "~", ">", "^" symbols. This is a simple hack how to get these symbols into your X Terminal shortcut buttons.

3D Rollercoaster Rush game for Nokia N900 coming soon!

At MWC 2010 Nokia announced two new games for Nokia N900 that will hit the Ovi store very soon. The first game 3D Rollercoaster Rush looks really amazing from what we were able to see from the demo video walk through posted at Nokia Conversations. The other game is a brain-bending 3D puzzle game called Zen Boun where you stroke the screen in an attempt to wrap rope around objects floating in space. Although it does not sound very impressive or fun to do, it looks a bit more interesting on the video so check it out below.

Maemo 5 Extras reaches 4 million downloads

The Maemo 5 Extras repository for community contributed software has reached 4 million downloads. Well to be exact 3.982.665 at the moment of writing this article, but what are a few thousands compared to millions. This only shows the interest that the Maemo 5 Extras repository has among Nokia N900 users. The Extras repository comes preenabled with latest firmware updates. The most popular app in the Extras was the FM Radio Player app for Maemo 5 / Nokia N900 which received over 140.000 downloads.

Witter might be getting an update soon

It seems like the Witter App, a nice Twitter client for Maemo 5 / Nokia N900 will be getting an update soon judging by the latest post on Daniel Would's blog - the developer of the app:

For the last couple of weeks, my time on Witter has been spent refactoring the code to be more manageable. And hopefully allow easier addition of things like multiple account support. At this point I’m actually quiet keen to get witter to a point where I can put it on a back burner, and start playing with some of the other cool things people have been doing, such as face tracking with the front camera and text recognition. It is starting to feel like there are going to be some really cool capabilities added to the n900 over the next 6 months. Who knows, I may even put avatar support in witter just so I can focus on new things without on going requests for it.
