One of the few things I like about my Nokia N900 is the thing that it integrates extremly well with my everyday needs and my current setup of devices. Another great feature or to be more corect an app allowing this feature is "rdesktop" a small app for your Nokia N900 that allows you to create a remote desktop connection to your Windows PC. Why would you need a remote desktop feature on your device I can not tell cos it is different for everyone but, I personally found it very usefull for the simple reason that it allows me to access my PC from anywhere, and do whatever I want to do, like email a few pictures that I forgot to send to a friend and I remembered when I was already out.

So how to setup a remote desktop connection to your Windows 7, Vista or XP PC. Go to "App Manager"  and download "rdesktop" and "rdesktop-cli" on your Nokia N900, both are available in the Extras Devel repository. Or if you are reading this article on your Maemo powered Nokia N900 just click the links to get the install files. Now open the rdesktop app on your device and you should get a screen like this one:


In "RDP server" you enter the IP address of your desktop PC, for username you use your Windows login and the password field I think needs no explaining to do. Leave the other fields and checkboxes as they are and click OK.


Please note that you must enable remote desktop access on your PC before you use this app on your Nokia N900. Also I found a bug in the app that rendered some problems with clicking items or moving the mouse cursor near the top of the screen but if you are using the stylus you should manage to control even an app as tiny as my Winamp.
